The set was intended to be in Harper Lee’s hometown of Monroeville, Alabama, by the producers. It seemed like the ideal location because Harper Lee based the fictional town of Maycomb on her experiences growing up in Monroeville. But between the 1920s and the early 1960s, the town had undergone significant change, so they decided to film it on the Hollywood backlot instead. [10].
Since the courthouse’s poor audio quality prevented them from using it, the Old Monroe County Courthouse in Monroeville served as a model for the movie set. Many Alabamans mistakenly thought that the movie was filmed in Monroeville due to the realism of the Hollywood courthouse reconstruction.
