Types of Bird of Paradise Plants

By no means are the plants in the bird of paradise group very large. Actually, there are currently only two varieties of Bird of Paradise available for purchase. They are known as the Orange and White Birds of Paradise, respectively.

Orange Bird of Paradise

Orange bird of paradise plants are truly one of nature’s artistic creations; few other plants can evoke a more tropical atmosphere. It yields beautiful flowers in the shape of soaring tropical birds. Some people claim they look like the head of a long-necked bird emerging from the dark gray-green foliage. Strelitzia reginae is its botanical Latin name.

The orange bird of paradise is a houseplant that rarely blooms when grown only indoors. Moving it outside in the warm summer months, however, results in beautiful, long-lasting flowers. The orange bird of paradise plant has a maximum height of four feet.
