  • Darla Contois plays Bezhig Little Bird/Esther Rosenblum, a young woman who was raised in Saskatchewan’s Long Pine Reserve. Bezhig and two of her siblings are taken into custody by Child Protection Services following an incident involving Bezhig, her brother Niizh, and the police, despite the fact that her family is loving and loyal. Bezhig is ultimately taken in by a prosperous Jewish family in Montreal, where she goes on to finish law school and get engaged to David, a physician. Bezhig still finds it difficult to fit in with David’s family despite her achievements, which finally leads her to search for her birth family in Saskatchewan.
  • Lisa Edelstein as Golda Rosenblum, Bezhig/Esther’s adopted mother. Golda, who is currently divorced, appears to be a little reclusive and doubtful of middle-class society.
  • Ellyn Jade as Bezhig’s biological mother, Patti Little Bird, and her siblings Despite being kind and soft-spoken at first, Patti has to fight to be able to reclaim custody of her three younger children.
  • Osawa Muskwa as Morris Little Bird, Bezhig’s birth father. Morris has taken his older son Leo hunting for the first time on the day his three younger children are captured. Morris comes across as a loving, watchful father and spouse.
  • Joshua Odjick plays Little Bird’s younger son Niizh, who is captured along with his sisters.
  • Bezhig’s younger sister Dora Mueller, played by Imajyn Cardinal, is adopted into a strict family in Saskatchewan and informs Esther/Bezhig that she has fled her home.
  • Braeden Clarke as Leo Little Bird, Bezhig’s elder brother. Leo goes on his first hunt with his father the day his siblings are captured.
  • Janet Kidder plays Jeannie, a Child Protective Services senior caseworker who has the younger Little Bird kids in custody. She is perceived as being steadfast in her conviction that taking indigenous children away from their families is saving them, and she readily connects the modesty and traditional parenting of the Little Bird home with abuse.
  • As the Little Bird children are being taken into custody, Alanna Bale plays Adele, a trainee case worker working under Jeannie. Adele is troubled by Jeannie’s actions and mindset, but she doesn’t always express it.
