National Bird: Bald EagleThe bald eagle has been associated with the United States nearly as long as the country itself has existed. It was adopted as the National Emblem in 1782, when it was used in the Great Seal. The official state dinosaur of the state of Arkansas is another illustration of the haphazard manner in which state symbols are chosen. A young man from Fayetteville County named Mason Cypress Oury made the decision to launch a campaign in 2013. He desired that the Arkansaurus fridayi be recognized as the official state dinosaur of Arkansas. Oury was able to spread the word via social media, and in 2017 Governor Hutchinson of Arkansas signed a bill designating the Arkansaurus fridayi as the state dinosaur.
