Charcoal and Oyster Shells

What makes charcoal and oyster shell supplements necessary for your bird’s care? Each of these supplements has special benefits that can assist you in caring for your bird. Although the avian community no longer views charcoal as essential for companion birds, we at HARI believe that activated charcoal is a must-have item for anyone who owns companion birds. Why is charcoal one of the first products recommended when toxic plant or other item ingestion is suspected in cases where our pet may be harmed? We urge you to contact your avian veterinarian immediately if you think your parrot may have eaten something poisonous. Make sure you let your veterinarian know if you’ve given them charcoal. Before the breeding season, a lot of smaller species will eat oyster shells. The rate or volume of consumption is frequently used by breeders to predict when their hens will start laying eggs. The additional calcium that comes from the oyster shell is beneficial to hens.

Grit or gravel should generally not be given to parrots, however finches and canaries may receive small amounts of gravel. Overindulgence in insoluble or indigestible grit or gravel can result in ventricular impaction and fatal cropping. Combining the benefits of Tropican, a nutritionally balanced extruded morsel, with the taste of delicious fruits, vegetables, legumes, and nuts, Tropimix offers the best of both worlds.

is charcoal harmful to birds

Compared to other products on the market, Tropican Parrot food is an extruded formula with a higher nutrient density and digestibility. Better plumage, weight balance, reduced consumption, increased metabolic water production—which leads to decreased water intake and urination—and superior palatability are the outcomes of this.

The complete, balanced diet that Tropican Premium Formulas are designed to feed companion parrots at every stage of their lives—from a newly hatched baby chick to an active, energetic adult to a fully grown senior—is prepared according to scientific principles. There is no need for dietary supplements when it comes to mash, extruded granules, sticks, or biscuits. For optimal palatability and biological value, each formula includes a nutrient-dense combination of grains, seeds, nuts, vegetables, fruits, and vitamins and minerals. Tropican exclusively utilizes the freshest legumes and grains from the most recent harvests.

Supplements

Introducing vitamin and calcium supplements to your bird is the surest way to ensure you are providing optimal diet conditions for better health. Poor or inadequate diet is the main reason for illness in birds. Birds may get sick for many reasons but the two main categories where most problems lie are the bird’s environment and their diet. If bird owners can optimize their bird’s environment and diet, many problems can be avoided. This means that your bird can live a longer, healthier, happier life.

Feeding Guide

While the HARI Flock eats 100% Tropican extruded parrot food daily, when considering what to feed pet birds we recommend that the daily diet for parrots consist of 70% Tropican Extruded Pellets and 30% enrichment foods such as: seed & nut mixes, fresh fruits and vegetables, leafy greens, sprouts and of course Tropimix Enrichment Parrot Food!

Quality Control

Before distribution, each batch of HARI product undergoes a strict and rigorous 3-step Quality Control process to ensure that consumers get safe, dependable and top-quality bird food for their treasured feathered companions.
