For the texture paste
As an additive, you can use cornflour, starch, plaster of Paris, or baby powder. Play sand works well too.
I will first demonstrate how to make the texture paste, which can then be used to create the ball bird.
Step 2: The Head (Bird Brain)
(The face shown here is different than the final picture. ) Cut a piece of felt to cover the face. Cut a thin strip of black felt, and then make tiny triangles out of it. Make 2. These will be the eye lashes. Put glue on the felt face first, and then the eyelashes to the back of the googly eyes. Cut an orange piece of felt into the shape of a diamond. Glue the center of the diamond to the face. To shape the mouth, place two tiny drops of glue on its sides or one tiny drop in the middle. To avoid using your fingers, use the hard plastic piece to press down on the glue.
Painting or glazing the polystyrene ball bird
I glazed the textured ball with turpentine and oil paint to give my little polystyrene ball bird the appearance of clay. She can be painted or glazed to fit the style of your decor.
After the paint has completely dried, lightly sand the surface to reveal some of the layers.
After you’re satisfied with the design, you can assemble and complete the polystyrene ball bird.
