Summer time friends!!! Can you believe it’s just about here? After the beautiful weekend we had, I am feeling it! We even did a little Summer project that (as all of our projects) had it’s ups and downs. It was something that I had been wanting to make for a while so thankful for the amazing hubby I have that took the time to help me with this one. We created our very own DIY bird house. Now, I could of just bought a bird house and not taken half of Sunday to make this, but of course my taste was leading me to $500 bird homes that just wasn’t something I was willing to drop that amount of money on. I really wanted something that looked timeless, and large, and have a copper roof! You know we have a ton of projects still to get done here and somehow we made time to squeeze a bird house in -haha-. Anyway I think it’s a great way to kick off the good weather and it truly has this traditional look of a bird house (or bird hotel my husband is calling it). I love the look and I think it’s definitely an easy level DIY. (We have not done this part yet) Add dowel to bottom for support or add hook to roof to hang in tree. So, I’ma little undecided here, what we should do with the house now that it’s finished. I’ll probably fill you all in on instagram, on what we decide.

FAQ

Is making bird houses profitable?

For a few weeks of work gathering and taking apart pallets, you can have enough wood for 100 birdhouses. At four a day for five weeks, you can have 100 birdhouses ready to sell for $10 to $20 each. That is a minimum $1000 in six weeks or less. Enlist your wife or children and make it a family endeavor.

Are bird houses easy to make?

Building a bird house is a fun project that a beginner can complete in just a few hours. Follow these six steps and our free, simple bird house plan to build your own one-board wooden bird house. If you don’t have all the tools you need to complete the project, you can rent them from Lowe’s.

What kind of wood is used for bird houses?

In the absence of evidence however, we recommend using untreated, unpainted wood to construct boxes (cedar, white pine, and yellow pine are good rot-resistant choices).

How high should bird houses be mounted?

Your birdhouse must be at least 5 feet above ground. This protects vulnerable birds from most ground-roaming predators. There’s no need to go above 12 feet high: birds don’t want to live in the penthouse!
