Gladys Brooks, Birdman’s mother (August 29, 1935 January 21, 1975), whom he only addresses as Ms. Gladys, died when he was five years old. Birdman has released a song called after her and has made many other references to her in his music. [5][6] Johnnie Williams, his father (September 20, 1920 July 13, 1996), owned several small businesses in the New Orleans area, such as a laundromat and several bars. [37] Johnnie was killed in a car accident in 1996. [3].
Ronald “Slim” Williams is one of the ten brothers and twelve sisters that Birdman has. Ronald is the co-founder of Cash Money Records, alongside Birdman. In 2006, Tamara, one of Birdman’s younger sisters, perished in an automobile accident. Because their mother died when they were young, Birdman raised his younger sister mainly, and he called her his daughter. Following Bryan’s release from jail, Slim and he both started to take notice of the hip-hop subgenre known as “bounce,” which was rapidly gaining popularity in New Orleans nightclubs. Bryan proposed establishing their own record label in 1992, naming it “Cash Money Records.” After that, Bryan and Slim would visit nightclubs throughout Louisiana to check out the lineup and try to sign musicians to the newly established label. Local rapper Kilo G was their first signed artist; in 1992, he released the label’s first-ever project, a horrorcore album called “The Sleepwalker.” [12][13] As Bryan and Slim persuaded friend and local DJ Mannie Fresh to join Cash Money as an in-house producer, they were able to bring on an increasing number of artists. The majority of Cash Money’s fan base was based in New Orleans and the surrounding areas by the mid-1990s, when the label had become well-known in the South. Cash Money artist Lil Slim met 12-year-old Dwayne Carter in 1995 at a neighborhood block party. After hearing Carter rap, Slim brought him to Baby’s attention. Shortly after, Carter became the label’s youngest artist when he signed with Cash Money. Carter was put in a group with 14-year-old Christopher Dorsey, another young rapper; they would go by the names “Baby D” and “Lil Doogie,” respectively; The B G. z. Around this same period, Baby started rapping under the moniker B-32 while a member of the group 32 Golds.
