What Can Be Included in Nesting Materials?
You could get the following or purchase nesting supplies from your neighborhood pet store:
- Palm leaves (Lulu simply adores these)
- Paper towels
- Dried grass
- Lovebirds own feathers (lost ones)
- Leaves of non-poisonous plants (lovebird-safe)
My female lovebird, Lulu, enjoys tearing up palm leaves and tucking them into her tail. It is the perfect nesting material for her.
The most common egg-laying problem in lovebirds is egg-binding. This means that your bird is unable to pass an egg easily. This can be fatal to your bird. A vet must be consulted immediately when this occurs. If a vet cannot be consulted, you could do a few things to help your bird expel the egg.
In my case, Lulu had passed nine eggs easily. After a 5-to 7-day interval, the 10th, 11th, and 12th eggs had been passed with difficulty. She didnt keep well, started vomiting, and slept a lot. She stayed like this for one day. She would pass her egg the following day and resume her normal, active life.

- Feed the male bird the previously mentioned calcium supply if the female isn’t eating.
