Bird: Yeah, Im really interested [in doing more]. I think its something that Ive always wanted to do. I’ve always wondered how intriguing it would be to pair up two elite athletes who are close friends and have a ton of success and experience. I mean, were like best friends. So that rapport thats just there. There’s nothing forced or artificial about it; it just exists. Place them in front of a basketball game, allow them to converse, and observe the outcome.
Bird: Flau’jae Johnson comes to mind. She was only a freshman at LSU. She has a rap career. She is already extremely gifted in that area, but she is also a nationally-championed basketball player. In addition, Togethxr has a storytelling series called Fenom in which they feature Flau’jae as one of the subjects.
Bird: We have a lot. We’ve been debating this a lot: Messi or LeBron James, who is faster?
That’s what transpired when the four founders got together, and things have been going really well ever since. We’re just able to share and shine light on people you wouldn’t normally hear about while also telling stories that you wouldn’t typically hear.
Bird: It was really Alex [Morgan] who had this idea. Look around and you’ll see that we are female athletes, and we all know that women’s athletes receive less coverage from the media than men’s athletes do. And you look at sites where athletes are driven and have a voice, like Uninterrupted or something like the Player’s Tribune?
