One evening, my daughter and I were taking a stroll around the neighborhood when we noticed a cloud of black crows soaring overhead. The crows began to squawk more loudly as we approached a particular location on the sidewalk, getting closer to our heads. We were shocked to see a smaller crow resting near the curb in the street. What Do Black Crows Eat?
Crows are omnivores and will eat just about anything. They have been observed to consume dead fish or other animals in addition to trash, eggs, fish, mice, worms, and frogs. Their diet should consist of a lot of protein.
If you come across an injured crow, you can feed it unsalted sunflower seeds, different grains, or kibble.
Can You Keep a Crow as a Pet?
It’s not advisable to keep black crows as pets. Crows must fly in flocks of two or more, so if you see one struggling to take off, either call animal patrol or securely place it in the closest tree. Crows have a large family that will teach them how to hunt, eat, and stay safe. That being said, you shouldn’t follow our example and bring the bird inside your house.

It is usually not the best idea, even though many people might be tempted to follow my family’s example and bring the bird home in an effort to rehabilitate it. The Humane Society advises against trying to assist the bird yourself and instead contacting a certified wildlife rehabilitator.
