can birds eat popcorn and cranberries

I have trader Joes organic popcorn with extra virgin olive oil and wanted to know if it was safe to give the birds in my backyard the popcorn?

I have some organic popcorn from Trader Joe’s that I thought would be good to give to the birds in my backyard. It comes with extra virgin olive oil.

I made a batch of plain popcorn a few nights before our project and left it out on the cupboard unattended. That’s the key to success with this project… Stale popcorn. After one night, it’s fairly doable, but after two or three, it becomes very easy. However, if you try freshly popped popcorn, you’ll be tearing your hair out in no time!

After we were done, some of our cranberries had already begun to dry out and shrivel, which was okay with me because I like the rustic look. This gave me an idea. We’ve been wanting to set up a bird feeder of some kind, but living in an apartment without a patio means our options are limited. Why not hang the cranberry popcorn garland outside for our birds to enjoy instead of somewhere inside where it could possibly drip or start to smell? I joined several forums for serious bird watchers and lovers, and from the comments I got, popcorn is a perfectly safe (and frequently highly appreciated) treat for birds as long as it isn’t salted or buttered. Hooray!

Miss G began threading after I secured one end of the baker’s twine to the table. She saw right away that the cranberries had a “dot” on each end, which served as a handy starting point for passing the needle through.
